Sleep
Dentistry in Melbourne
No
pain and no need to be scared of the dentist!
We now offer Sleep Dentistry under the supervision of a specialist
anaesthetist trained in anaesthesia and intensive care.
Sleep
Dentistry is the use of medically administered and supervised
intravenous ("IV") sedation and is often referred to as
"Conscious Sedation" or "Twighlight Sleep".
It is the most advanced form of dental sedation available and uses
a combination of sedative and pain relieving drugs to create a drowsy
and dream like state of deep, calming relaxation for the entire
duration of your dental procedure.
When you wake up you will have no memory or recollection of the
noises, smells needles or drilling and usually there is no unpleasant
side effects, in fact you feel like you have woken from a very satisfying
sleep. No pain, no discomfort and no fear.
Although
you may have been unaware that it is available, once sleep dentistry
is experienced you will have an entirely new, positive and relaxed
outlook when you next see the dentist.
All
of the safety equipment that you would expect in a major hospital
will be provided to ensure your safety throughout the procedure
and supervised at all times by the anaesthetist.
The
advantage of sedation is that it does not require you to be an inpatient
of a hospital, which allows your procedure to be done in Dr.Olstein's
surgery, offering him access to all his resources and thus making
your treatment so much more efficient.
You'll
be ready to go home after a short recovery period in the company
of another responsible adult who is prepared to stay with you for
24 hours. You are usually ready to go home after 20 to 30 minutes.
In
our practice, twighlight or sleep dentistry is administered by Dr.
Raiz, who is an experienced specialist anaesthetist. He specialises
in dental sedation and maintains a practice providing sedation to
dental patients as well as many other forms of complex surgery.
He is by your side the entire time.
